The founder was known as Torakusu Yamaha.
They manufacture home appliances, semiconductors and sporting goods among others. Yamaha first started as a reed organ and piano manufacturer way back in 1887 and since then they have made more than just music instruments. You can name them all, from pianos to flutes, they’ve got them and so it’s no surprise it makes the list of the best flute brands. It currently ranks as the largest music instrument manufacturer in the whole world.
There was not one a new to try at the convention. An outstanding instrument recommended by several friends who play a Kotato. Has trill keys!!!! Excellent tone, response and key action. Acceptable sound and key layout in the bottom notes. They sell as soon as they are made so did not find one to try. Wonderfully light and seems to play itself! Comes with a Wiseman case. Kingma-Brannen bass $20,400 but varies with exchange rate.Available with a small (no current price available) or large bore ($17,600). Eva Kingma $15,000 and up? Varies with exchange rate.Adjustable support rod works well when sitting. A large bore horizontal bass with a powerful, rich and huge sound. Was rumored to come with a support that went all the way to the ground but it was missing in action. Has a support stick with interchangable segments to find the best height when sitting. Beautiful, strong consistent tone in all octaves. Play it off to the side like a saxophone and the right hand position will be okay. The clacky right hand key problem seems to have been solved and the low notes were acceptable. Comfortable to hold and good sound and response. Clacky key noise has diminished but is still a little annoying. A light weight plastic instrument with a surprisingly wide dynamic range. Only for people with shoulder problems, arthritis or other severe physical limitations. If you chose a b-foot, be prepared to find a good support system for the instrument. It does give you one more note but adds length and weight to the already heavy instrument. I consider trill keys a “must have.” A b-foot only comes on some brands and is not necessary. All basses shown include trill keys which are used for many alternate fingerings and solving response problems. The hammering produces a “dimpled” look to the headjoint that is very cool!īass Flute Recommendations – 21 instruments tested Also has a “hammered” straight head option that has a slightly more focused tone quality. Juan Arista – straight and curved sterling alto head joint.
Chris Abell – wooden straight alto head joint.I found mixed results with tone quality on the lowest notes. Yamaha – curved and straight heads available.Sankyo – curved and straight heads available.Of the straight-head altos, I find this the most comfortable for the right hand. Kingma-Brannen – a very light alto that seems to play itself!.Has an open-hole and closed hole model, also gold-plated and curved head models. Eva Kingma – wonderful tone, light action, very responsive.Altus – curved and straight heads available. How does it sound and how do the keys feel in your hands? Especially test your facility and the response of the footjoint notes. Do not be distracted by a “different” look. Different plating options are available on some brands, i.e. Most altos in this price range have curved and straight headjoints available.
